Bustamante Gets Top 25 Win, Troy Drops Close One at Miami

CORAL GABLEs, Florida β The No. 68 Troy men's tennis team saw Daniel Bustamante grabbed a very highly ranked win, but the Trojans came up just short in a 4-3 loss to Miami at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center on Saturday.

Troy (1-5) played its first match of the season against an unranked team, but that didn't mean the Hurricanes lacked talent.Β In fact, Maimi's lineup featured three ITA ranked singles players, the highest being No. 23 Piotr Lomacki, whom Bustamante beat in straight sets.

Miami (3-3) won the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2, but Mustapha Belcora quickly drew Troy even with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles over Kevin Bondar.Β The Hurricanes then went ahead 3-1 with wins at No. 3 and No. 5, including one from No. 107 Max Andrews.

That is when Bustamante kept the Trojans alive with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Lomacki at No. 1 singles.Β The Trojans then needed to win both remaining matches as No. 2 and No. 5 moved to third sets.

Filip Mansson cruised in his third set, beating Fermin Calvo, 1-6, 6-2, 6-2 at No. 5.Β Andy Lau, however, couldn't hold on against No. 70 Christian Langmo and lost in three sets, 4-6, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 2.

The Trojans must recover quickly as they travel to take on No. 29 Florida State on Sunday at 11 a.m. CT in Tallahassee.
