Troy University Athletics is proud of its athletic integrity and tradition. Just as coaches, administrators and staff members have a responsibility to abide by NCAA regulations and guidelines, so too do supporters of Troy University. The following is intended to provide a basic understanding of NCAA governing bylaws and regulations. While these regulations are not exhaustive, it does include common situations encountered by alumni and friends.Â

Who is a "Representative of Athletic Interests?"
A "representative of the institution's athletics interest" (i.e., athletic supporter/ booster) is anyone who engages in any of the following activities:
* participating as a member in any of the various Athletic Department booster groups, Alumni Groups or the Troy University Foundation.
* making a donation to Troy Athletics or an institutional booster club.
* arranging for summer or vacation employment for student-athletes.
* purchasing season tickets in any sport.
* assisting in the recruitment of prospects.
* promoting Troy Athletics in any manner.
According to NCAA rules, once an individual has been identified as an institutional "representative of athletics interests" the individual retains that title for life. Troy University is ultimately responsible for the acts of all "representatives of athletics interests" in relation to NCAA rules and regulations.

Rules to Know (Do's and Do not's)
DO'S
* Speak to a prospect via telephone only if the prospect initiates the conversation and it is not for recruiting purposes.
* Provide coaches with names of prospective student-athletes.
* Contact with a prospect regarding summer employment arrangements that occurs subsequent to the prospect signing the National Letter of Intent.Â
* Report any possible violations of NCAA rules and regulations to the Troy compliance office.
DO NOT'S
* Do not provide employment to a student-athlete without first checking with the Troy compliance office.
* Do not use the name or picture of an enrolled student-athlete to advertise, recommend or promote the sale or use of a commercial product or service.Â
* Do not provide any special arrangement (e.g., gifts, reduced housing, use of an automobile, etc.) to a prospect or a student-athlete.
* Do not do anything for prospective or enrolled student-athletes without specific authorization from Troy athletics.

Q: Who is considered a prospective student-athlete (i.e., prospect)?
A: Any individual who has started classes for the ninth grade.

Q: Is it permissible to discuss Troy with a prospect for the purpose of participation in athletics?
A: No, you may not be involved in promoting Troy to a prospect.
Q: Is it permissible to offer Troy coaches the names of prospects to evaluate?
A: Yes, you may provide coaches with names of prospects for purposes of recruiting.
Q: Is it permissible to provide, arrange or co-sign a loan for a prospective or enrolled student-athlete?
A: No, you may not provide any special arrangement that is not authorized by NCAA regulations.
Q: Can you offer a student-athlete tickets to an athletic, institutional or community event?
A: No, offering free or reduced tickets to any event is not allowed.
Q: Can you provide employment to a student-athlete?
A: Yes, however strict stipulations regarding obtaining employment, compensation and transportation apply; therefore contact the Troy compliance office.
Q: After an athletic event, you see a student-athlete walking home in the rain. Can you provide them transportation to the dormitory?
A: No, you may not provide any means of transportation whether it is airfare home or a ride across campus.
Q: Is it permissible to provide gifts or awards to a student-athlete for his or her athletic performance?
A: No, all awards must conform to NCAA restrictions and must be approved by the Troy compliance office.
Q: As an athletic representative can you continue friendships with prospective or enrolled student-athletes' families (e.g., backyard barbecues, picnics)?
A: Yes, you simply cannot encourage a prospect's participation in Troy athletics or provide extra benefits to student-athletes.
Q: Can a student athlete attend a local charity?
A: Yes, however some restrictions apply.
Q: What would be the penalties if a booster intentionally or unintentionally violated any NCAA rules and regulations?
A: Any misunderstanding or disregard of a rule may result in sanctions against Troy and the individual. Possible sanctions for the individual could include loss of season tickets, public reprimand or disassociation with the institution. Further the institution could experience a reduction in scholarships, ineligibility for postseason events or probation for a period of time.

How you can help
Join the local booster club
These clubs provide support for the university and the specific teams. These groups attend home and away events and on occasion help raise funds for special projects.
Provide Employment and Internships
If you know of positions in your business or community that might be filled by a student-athlete, contact the Troy compliance office for names of student-athletes who might qualify.
Report Potential Violations
If you know of a violation or possible violations involving Troy University, please report to the Compliance Office as soon as possible. We will conduct an investigation and determine necessary actions.
Better Safe Than Sorry
Compliance with NCAA regulations is of the highest priority for our athletic program and institution. We need your assistance in complying with NCAA rules.
