Ricky Hazel is in his sixth year as the Director of Media Relations at Troy University. Hazel oversees the athletic department’s athletics media relations efforts, as well as serving as the primary liason for football. He also serves as the primary contact for baseball and golf (men’s and women’s) throughout the year.
He is a veteran of 15 years in athletics media relations, including time at Southern Miss, Marshall and Alabama A&M. In just 14 seasons at the Division I-A level, Hazel has been part of eight bowl teams.
In the past, Hazel has overseen the publicity and promotion of Chad Pennington for the Heisman Trophy, the Davey O’Brien Award and Johnny Unitas Award at Marshall. He spearheaded a similar campaign on behalf of Byron Leftwich at Marshall in 2002.
Hazel received his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Alabama and his Master’s from Southern Miss. He is married to the former Joan Loudermilk of Corinth, MS, and the couple resides in Troy.
