Women’s Tennis Defeats Chattanooga, 5-2

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The Troy women's tennis team found its way back into the win column after an impressive 5-2 win over Chattanooga on Friday evening.
Troy (5-1) fell on Thursday against North Alabama but quickly got back into its groove. The Trojans opened the match by winning the doubles point to grab an early 1-0 lead over Chattanooga (4-6).
UTC won the first doubles match, 6-2, on court 1. Hagar Ramadan-Amin and Emilia Namyslo answered back with a 6-2 win on court 3. Valeriia Avdeeva and Leena Metwally clinched the first point of the match with a 6-4 win on court 3.
In singles, the Mocs leveled the score at 1-1 thanks to a 6-0, 6-0 win in the No. 1 singles spot. Gabrielle Leslie responded for the Trojans with a 6-4, 6-1 win the No. 6 spot. Once again, UTC evened things up with a 6-4, 6-2 win in the No. 2 spot.
Tied at 2-2, the three remaining singles matches all went to a third set. Maria Guiguirs fell in her first set but won the next two to complete the come-from-behind 2-6, 6-1, 6-4 win in the No. 4 spot to bring the Trojans within one point of the match victory.
In the No. 5 spot, Metwally clinched the team victory for Troy with a 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 win.
Both teams agreed to play out the final match on Court 3. Ramadan-Amin picked up the final point of the night with a 7-6 (7-5), 2-6, 7-6 (7-4) victory.
The match was three hours and 43 minutes, the longest Troy has played so far this spring.
Up Next
The Trojans are back in action next Saturday, as they had to Nashville to face off against Belmont at 1 p.m. Troy will then head to Middle Tennessee on Sunday morning for a 9 a.m. match against Middle Tennessee.
