Women’s Tennis Season Opens at Samford Fall Invitational

TROY, Ala. – For the third consecutive season, the Troy women's tennis team begins its fall tournament season at the Samford Fall Invitational, scheduled for Friday, Sept. 19, to Sunday, Sept. 21.
"I want to see how they're looking in matches, and it's also for them – they want to play and compete," head coach Rawia Elsisi said. "Right now, we're trying to get started and get as much match play as we can."
On Friday, Troy begins round-robin action with doubles against Jacksonville State at 10 a.m. Play will conclude at 1 p.m. with singles against Samford. Saturday's schedule includes doubles against South Alabama at 10 a.m., followed by singles against Jacksonville State at 11 a.m. On Sunday, the match times remain the same, with Troy facing Samford in doubles and South Alabama in singles.

2024-25 Recap
Last season saw the Trojans go 13-10, 6-5 in the Sun Belt Conference, securing the team's fourth consecutive double-digit win season and the No. 7 seed in the conference. Troy opened the tournament by dispatching Coastal Carolina, 4-2. Despite their seeding, Troy upset No. 2 App State, 4-3, in the quarterfinal round en route to the semifinals of the SBC Tournament, where the team fell to Marshall, 4-1.
Valeriia Avdeeva and Maria Guirguis aim to build on last season's performance, which earned them both All-SBC Singles Second Team honors. Avdeeva led the team with 15 wins, with eight coming in conference play. Guirguis was second on the team with 12 wins, seven coming in Sun Belt play.
