Troy Women’s Tennis Tackles Day One of Samford Fall Invitational

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Day one of the Samford Fall Invitational is in the books. Troy competed in a multitude of doubles and singles matches to mark the beginning of the 2025 campaign.
Day one action kicked off with doubles play as the team of Valeriia Avdeeva and Maria Guirguis secured a 6-3 victory over Angel Rodriguez Rizo and Sae Kaneko of Jacksonville State.
Next, Troy paired Alexia Zarate and Veena Nazar to take on another JSU duo, Polina Ramenskaja and Isabella Sambola – Ramenskaja and Sambola won the match 7-6. Doubles action concluded with Emilia Namyslo and Sama Hindawy taking down JSU's Irene Artigas and Emma Montagner, 6-4.
For singles, the day began with Maria Guirguis going to three sets with Samford's Sara Erenda. After dropping the first set 1-6, Guirguis bounced back by taking the second set 6-2. In the decisive third set, Guirguis not only took the set, but also a match victory by score of 10-5.
Singles action continued with Valeriia Avdeeva battling Eleni Liakonis of Samford. Avdeeva showed why she earned 2024-25 All-Sun Belt Singles Second Team honors by dispatching Liakonis in two sets, 6-3 followed by 6-0.
Next, Troy's Veena Nazar took on Lea Erenda. After Nazar took the first set 1-6, Erenda stormed back taking the next set, 6-4. She then closed the door on Nazar in a nail-biting third set,10-8.
In the next match Troy secured another match victory. Alexia Zarate defeated Laila Fishman in two sets. Zarate won both sets 6-4.
That match was followed by Emilia Namyslo taking Grace Keller to three sets. Keller secured set one 7-6 and Namyslo answered by taking set two, 6-1. The third set was a battle as Keller proved to be too much as Namyslo fell 13-11.
The day concluded with Troy's Sama Hindawy taking the court against Samford's Townsend Penney. Hindawy only needed two sets as she took set one 6-3 and set two 6-1.
