Women’s Tennis Falls to Belmont, 5-2

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Troy women's tennis team couldn't overcome an early deficit, as it fell to Belmont 5-2 on Saturday afternoon.
Troy (5-2) opened doubles play with a strong performance from Valeriia Avdeeva and Leena Metwally, who had an impressive 6-0 win in the No. 3 spot. The Trojans, however, couldn't snag another doubles win. Belmont won 6-3 in the No. 1 spot and 7-5 in the No. 2 spot to take the 1-0 lead.
Belmont kept its strong play going in doubles, as it picked up a 6-3, 6-2 win on Court 1 and a 6-2, 6-1 win on Court 2 to jump out to a 3-0 lead. The Trojans weren't going down without a fight as Metwally won 6-1, 6-2 on Court 5 to move to 6-1 on the season.
Despite Troy's answer, Belmont clinched the win on Court 4 with a 6-2 4-6, 6-2 win. The two teams played out the remaining two matches with Gabrielle Leslie continuing her perfect singles start with a 7-5, 6-2 win on Court 6. She moves to 7-0 on the season. The Bruins picked up the final point of the day with a 6-1, 4-6, 6-2 win on Court 3.
