Four Trojans in Top 10, Men’s Golf Fifth After 36 Holes in Savannah

SAVANNAH, Ga. – A quartet of Trojans are in the top 10, and Troy is in fifth place following Saturday's opening two rounds of the Savannah Intercollegiate at the Club at Savannah Harbor.

Will Simpson fired a 2-under par 142 on the day to sit in sixth place, while Brantley Scott, Nicklas Borrmann and Jake Springer are all tied for ninth at 1-over on the day. Playing as an individual, Simpson carded four birdies as he shot even-par in the morning round and added four more birdies in the afternoon as he shot 2-under.

Springer finished the day with a combined five birdies, with three coming in the second round, where he shot even par. Scott had three birdies on his first trip through the course and shot even for the round, while Borrmann was 1-under following the morning round as he carded a pair of birdies and just one bogey.

Troy is in fifth place overall and just nine shots behind second-place George Washington; the Trojans are 12-over par through two rounds, and Columbia is the clubhouse leader at 8-under.

Jason Quinlan, also playing as an individual, is in a tie for 17^th place at 3-over par with a field-best nine birdies on the day, while Simpson's eight birdies were the second most on the opening day.

Will McFadden shot 9-over on the day and is tied for 50^th place, while George Burch is tied for 68^th place at 13-over par.

Teams will play a shotgun start for Sunday's final 18 holes. Troy will play alongside Fairleigh Dickinson, Holy Cross and Northern Kentucky when action starts at 7 a.m. (CT).
