LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Three Trojans shot in the red to lead Troy to a season-best 6-under par in Tuesday's final round of the Everett Buick GMC Classic at the Chanel Country Club. Troy finished in 15th place overall.
After carding three eagles in Monday's opening two rounds, Troy added two more on Tuesday, with Lee Poppell recording his third of the week, while Grant Yerger added a two on the par-4 eighth.
Poppell, who shot 7-under in the opening round, finished Tuesday's final trip through the golf course with four birdies to go along with the eagle on the ninth to close at 4-under for the day, 1-under for the tournament and tied for 30th place.
Pablo Gracia led the Trojans for a third straight event, shooting 5-under for the tournament to tie for 10th place after finishing at 3-under on Tuesday. He birdied his first hole of the day on the par-4 13th, followed with pars on 10 of his next 11 holes (with one bogey) before birding three straight from the seventh to the ninth.
Troy shot 6-under in the first and third rounds combined but couldn't overcome an uncharacteristic 11-over in the second round. Host-Little Rock ran away with the team title, winning by 21 shots over Lipscomb. The Trojans' five eagles were the third most in the field behind six each by North Texas and Little Rock.
Yerger shot under-par for the second time in his last four rounds after finding four birdies to go with his eagle; he entered the day leading the field in pars. He finished his week tied for 66th place at 8-over, while Thomas Crane tied for 72nd place (+10) after shooting 74 on Tuesday and Landon Noble tied for 74th (+11) following a final round 75.
Competing as individuals at the Turtle Point Invite, Lawton Emblom tied for 18th (-1), Pierce Becker tied for 28th (+4) and Haston Emblom tied for 37th (+6).
Troy takes a week off before closing out the fall at the FAU Invitational at Panther National in Palm Beach, Fla.
