Men’s Golf Shoots Under Par, Climbs Leaderboard at Savannah Invitational

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Paced by a pair of individual rounds under par, the Troy men's golf team shot a 1-under 287 in Sunday's final round of the Savannah Invitational. The Trojans moved up a spot and finished fourth in their first event of the spring.
Playing as an individual, Will Simpson led the Trojans as he tied for fifth place individually at 2-under par after shooting even on Sunday. He was sitting 3-over after 11 holes but made birdies on three of his last five holes to finish with a 72 for the second time on the weekend.
Simpson tied for third in the field with 11 birdies, while Jason Quinlan and Will McFadden tied for eighth with 10 birdies each. As a team, the Trojans' 39 birdies were the second-most in the field behind North Dakota State's 47.
Columbia shot even-par on the day and won the team title by 11 shots over North Dakota State, while George Washington was six shots better than Troy for third place.
McFadden completed his redemption run through the golf course shooting a 2-under 70 with four birdies on the day, the Troy senior was 1-under on his final 36 holes after shooting 8-over in the opening round; he climbed 16 spots on the leaderboard into a tie for 34th place.
Nicklas Borrmann was Troy's top finisher among countable scorers as he finished the weekend in eighth place at even-par following a 1-under 71 on Sunday. He flirted with par all day before stringing together back-to-back birdies on No. 1 and No. 2 to push his card in the red.
Jake Springer tied for ninth place at 1-over for the weekend after shooting even for the second straight round, Brantley Scott tied for 14th place at 3-under and George Burch tied for 64th place after shooting his best round of the weekend with a 2-over 74.
Troy is back in action March 5-7 in the Tiger Invitational at the RTJ Grand National in Opelika, Ala.
