Furtrell Leads Troy on Day Two of Sun Belt Championship

MIRAMAR BEACH, Florida – Connor Futrell fired a 4-under and Ike Alexander carded his second eagle of the week to lead Troy in Monday's second round of the Sun Belt Men's Golf Championship at The Raven Golf Course. Troy is tied for ninth place following 36 holes and needs to make up 10 shots in Tuesday's final round to advance to match play.
Futrell carded four birdies on the day to run his total 10 on the week; the fourth most in the field. The Troy sophomore is tied for sixth place overall at 3-under following two rounds after he played an error-free round on Monday. Futrell had a pair of double-bogeys and a bogey in Sunday's opening round but carded 14 pars to go with his four birdies on Monday.
Alexander holed out on the 421-yard, par 4 No. 14 for eagle after taking a three on the par 5 No. 17 in the opening round; he is the lone player in the field with multiple eagles. He added a birdie on the seventh to shoot a 2-over 73 and sit tied for 35thplace.
No. 28 Arkansas State shot 10-under as a team on Monday to climb three spots into the team lead. Coastal Carolina and Georgia Southern are three shots back in second while Little Rock fell from the top spot into fourth place. The top four teams will advance to Wednesday's match play semifinals.
Dean Martin rebounded from a rocky opening round to fire a 2-under 69 with three birdies and just one bogey to move into a tie for 40thplace. Will McFadden made the turn even with nine straight pars before an eventful back nine set his card at 3-over on the day; he is tied for 46thplace. Brent Hamm sits in 56thplace overall after shooting 8-over on Monday.
Troy will get a chance to post an early number in Tuesday's final round as the Trojans will go off No. 10 in the first group at 7:30 a.m. along with Texas State and Appalachian State.
