No. 63 Troy Drops Second Ranked Match

GAINESVILLE, Florida β The No. 63 Troy men's tennis team fell to its second ranked opponent in three days, losing 6-1 at No. 24 Florida on Sunday at the Ring Tennis Complex.

Unlike on Friday against No. 36 Louisville when Troy (0-2) won the doubles points, the Trojans struggled against the Gators who won a pair of 6-1 decisions at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles to take the opening point.Β Both of those doubles pairs are ranked in the nation's top 40 for Florida.

Then in singles play, the Gators' lineup featured five players ranked in the nation's top 100, with all five picking up wins to clinch the match.

Troy's lone point came at No. 6 singles where Mustapha Belcora defeated Florida's Maxx Lipman, 7-5, 7-6 (9).Β Andy Lau played strong for Troy at No. 2 singles where he forced a super tiebreaker in a 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (1) loss to No. 49 Elliott Orkin.

The Trojans now face yet another quick turnaround before a third straight road match against a ranked team.Β Troy will next play on Tuesday at No. 19 Ole Miss.Β Troy nearly knocked off the Rebels last season, falling 4-3 in Oxford.
