Troy Falls Late at Georgia State

ATLANTA, Georgia – The Troy softball team fell to a go-ahead solo home run in the sixth inning and lost, 4-3, in the series finale on Sunday at the Bob Heck Softball Complex.

Troy (13-11, 0-3 Sun Belt) trailed 3-0 early, but battled back in the top of the second inning on a two-out base hit by Kate Benton that scored Amanda Winters and Becca Hartley, who reached on a leadoff double and a walk. Â The walk pushed Hartley's reached base streak to 24 games.

The Trojans went on to tie the game at three in the sixth inning on a single up the middle by Hannah Day that scored Neely, who reached on a double, her eighth of the year.

Jaycee Affeldt (7-4) took the loss for the Trojans after giving up one earned run on two hits and struck out two in 5.2 innings of work.

Georgia State (16-2, 3-0 Sun Belt) took the lead, on a go-ahead home run in the sixth inning by Ivie Drake, who went 2-for-3 with all four of the Panthers RBIs.

Taylor Thorpe (9-0) entered in relief and got the win as she pitched three innings and gave up one earned run on three hits.

The Trojans will return to the diamond on Wednesday as they host No. 14 Auburn at the Troy Softball Complex at 6 p.m.
