2008: Was forced behind the plate due to a teammate's injury, freshman Hillary Hughes led Troy to victories in her first six starts at catcher ... She played primarily at second base (38 games) but also caught 14 games and filled in at shortstop in three contests ... Hughes started off the season with a bang garnering tournament MVP honors at Samford’s Bulldog Bash after a 7-for-14 (.500) weekend with six RBI’s ... She followed that up with her first career home run a week later against Florida State during a 2-for-4 day in Tallahassee ... Hughes picked up two hits against No. 10 LSU as the Trojans pushed them to 11 innings ... She batted .400 (4-for-10) against ULM with six RBI’s and three runs scored for the series ... During Troy’s three-game sweep of North Texas, Hughes batted .500 (5-for-10) with two doubles, two RBI’s and two runs scored ... She knocked in a run on a double during a 2-for-3 game against Auburn on 4/23 ... Hughes also went 2-for-3 with a double and run scored against Louisiana on 4/26 ... Led the Trojans in multi-hit games with 15.
