Troy Faces In-State Opponent in Midweek Contest

TROY, Ala. – The Troy softball team heads up north for a midweek game at UAB on Tuesday night. The Trojans (27-19, 6-9 SBC) will face the Blazers (19-23, 8-10 AAC) for the first time under head coach Eric Newell.
Taylor McKinney and Annie Orman look to stay hot after each hit two home runs in the weekend series against Georgia Southern. McKinney moved into sole possession of fifth place in Troy career home runs over the weekend – her career total sits at 36.

The Trojans dropped a series to the Sun Belt Conference leading Georgia Southern Eagles over the weekend.
Orman shined at the plate during the series, going 4-for-7, crushing two home runs and driving in three runs. The senior outfielder also hit two doubles and drew two walks.
In game one, Alyssa Faircloth locked down the Eagles with a one-hit shutout in a 2-0 victory. She struck out five batters in the win, earning her third shutout of the season and first in conference play. Orman and McKinney led the offense, with their solo homers providing Troy's only runs.
The Trojans fell 6-1 on Saturday after Georgia Southern scored four runs in the fourth inning to blow the game open. Despite six hits, Troy struggled to score against the Eagles pitching staff, which leads the Sun Belt.
In Sunday's rubber match, Troy fell in an 8-4 game. A three-run fifth inning from the Eagles broke a 3-3 tie and Georgia Southern scored in the sixth and seventh innings to get insurance runs. Orman and McKinney hit home runs in the game, but it wasn't enough to keep pace with the Eagles.

Lindsey Smith leads the team in OPS, doubles and home runs on the season – she has a 1.029 OPS, 11 doubles and six homers on the year. Bella Wiggins is the other Blazer with an OPS over 1.000.
