TROY, Ala. – As the Troy softball program prepares for the 2027 season, head coach Eric Newell announced the addition of three transfers — Emma King, Bre Hughes and Avery Adcock — to round out the roster.
The trio of Trojans joins four incoming freshmen, who signed on National Early Signing Day: Ellie Cox, Alivia Cooper, Anna Jo Bonds and Mariah Harrison.
Emma King | Outfielder | League City, Texas (Wisconsin)
King comes to Troy from the Big Ten (Wisconsin) as a rising junior. While at Wisconsin, King played in 83 games with 23 starts, primarily at left field. She peaked in her sophomore season with her first multi-hit game against Grand Canyon, going 3-for-4 at the plate. The outfielder also had a five-game run streak against UCLA, Penn State (2x) and Maryland (2x) in her sophomore year, while also having a career-high six-game run streak in 2025 against Kent State, Louisville, UConn, Coastal Carolina (2x) and Bowling Green. In high school, King was a three-time All-District First Team, two-time All-County First Team and All-State First Team (2024) at Clear Springs High School as the all-time leader in stolen bases.
"As soon as we spoke to Emma, we knew that she would be a great fit for Troy softball," Newell said. "She has two years of playing experience at Wisconsin, and she has been competing at a high level. She is a quick and dependable defender and can do a lot of things from the left side of the plate. She will use her speed to create havoc in the batter's box and on the bases. We could not be more excited to welcome her to our Troy softball family."
Bre Hughes | Infielder | Saraland, Ala. (Northwest Florida)
Troy's second transfer joins the 2027 roster after a two-year stint at Northwest Florida. As a Raider, Hughes earned All-Panhandle First Team, All-FCSAA Second Team and the New Balance NFCA Golden Shoe Award in 2026 after playing in 63 games at shortstop. In 2026, she batted a .363 clip with a .520 on-base percentage and a .690 slugging percentage, driving in 47 runs with 62 hits (30 extra-base hits and 10 homers). She also posted 17 multi-steal games, going a perfect 60-for-60 on the season. In 2025, she peaked in the postseason with a 3-for-3 performance in the semifinals before going 2-for-3 with two RBIs in the NJCAA National Championship game. Overall, Hughes hoisted two NJCAA National Championship trophies.
"Bre is a perfect fit for Troy softball," Newell said. "She is gritty, driven and plays every part of the game with an intensity that is contagious. While at NWF, she shined in all aspects of the game, and our coaching staff could not be more excited about her commitment to finish her career here at Troy."
Avery Adcock | Infielder | Cerulean, Ky. (Missouri)
The final transfer is Adcock, who transfers to Troy after one season as a Missouri Tiger. In her lone season, she played in 13 games with three runs scored, including her first in her collegiate debut against BYU – Adcock also scored against McNeese and Auburn in SEC play. Before Missouri, Adcock was a four-year letterwinner at Christian County High School, where she led her team to four district championships. While serving as the class president, class valedictorian and member of the National Honors Society off the field, Adcock also earned All-District First Team three times and All-Region First Team once. Adcock shone in her junior campaign, posting a .533 batting average with 56 hits, nine home runs, eight doubles, 23 stolen bases and 29 walks.
"We cannot wait to get Avery on campus," Newell said. "Avery is a big-time player and a big-time pickup for Troy softball. She can defend at a high level in the infield and can hit for both power and average. Avery is highly motivated, and we look forward to seeing what she is able to do as a Trojan."
