BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Troy softball fell in a 9-8 contest on the road against UAB. The Trojans (27-20, 6-9 SBC) hit three home runs, but three errors spelled disaster against the Blazers (20-23, 8-10 AAC).

A late comeback bid fell short after UAB scored four runs in the fifth inning to take a 9-7 lead. Overall, there were four lead changes in the high-scoring game.

From the plate, Makaley Boswell and Taylor McKinney led the offensive onslaught. Boswell went 3-for-4 with a home run, a double and two RBIs. Hitting right behind Boswell, McKinney went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs.

The Trojans started the game off with a bang, as Boswell jumped on a pitch to lead it off with a solo home run. It was the first time this season that the Trojans started the game with a long ball.

Cassidy Boltz also struck in the first inning, extending the lead to 3-0 with a two-run blast to left field. Troy's lead would be short lived.

The Blazers scored one run in the first off an error and took a 5-3 lead with a four-run second inning. The Trojans weren't done yet, as Boswell led off the third inning with a double.

McKinney followed it up with an opposite field home run to tie the game, her 12th homer of the year. While the home run tied the contest, it also pushed the Troy star into a tie for seventh place in Troy single season home runs.

After a quiet fourth inning, McKinney sparked more scoring with a single in the fifth. Annie Orman drew a walk behind her, and the Trojans scored a run off a UAB fielding error. With two outs, Natalie Turner delivered an RBI single to give Troy a 7-5 lead.

Despite the punch from the Trojans, the Blazers answered quickly. A four-run fifth inning gave UAB a 9-7 lead and forced Alyssa Faircloth (12-6) out of the game.

Dailynn Motes sparked a sixth inning rally with a single, and Boswell brought her around to score with an RBI single to cut the lead to one late.

Savannah Money forced a double play ball in the bottom of the sixth to keep the score where it was, sending the Trojans to the top of the seventh.

In Troy's final opportunity, the Trojans came up just short. Orman hit a ball to the warning track, but it was caught by the Blazers.

Quotable: Head Coach Eric Newell
"Tonight was a hard-fought game between two opponents that know each other very well. I'm proud of how our offense responded and came out early to set the tone. There were several things we could've done better defensively, but credit to UAB for capitalizing on our defensive miscues and free passes. I really saw good things from us at the plate and Savannah Money pitched well in relief. Now our focus is on Texas State."
