SAN MARCOS, Texas – After not being able to mount a comeback, Troy softball fell to Texas State in six innings 8-0 on Saturday afternoon at the Bobcat Softball Stadium.
Troy (26-15,6-5) went down in order at the top of the first, while the Texas State (32-8, 9-2 SBC) bats got started early in the first frame, plating four runs on four hits to take the lead that the Bobcats would keep all game.
Texas State would go on to score one run in the third and fourth frame before plating two in the sixth to end the game early.
Troy recorded three hits as Anslee Finch led the squad, going two-for-two from the dish with a double and a base hit. Jillian Williams also collected a base hit for the Trojans, marking her second time to do so in a Troy uniform.
Jessica Mullins, who leads the Sunbelt in strikeouts, was pitching for the Bobcats. She hurled six innings while striking out five Trojans and gave up three hits on her outing.

Thoughts from Eric Newell
"We are not excited to get beat, but this is a talented Texas State Team. I think even though the score will not represent it, we competed better today than we did yesterday. Five errors yesterday are just not acceptable. So, again, even though the score is going to show we got our tails kicked, we did compete a little bit better today, but we have a long way to go. So, I'm looking forward to tomorrow."
