Softball Lands Five on CSC Academic All-District Team

TROY, Ala. – The Troy softball team lands McKinnon Howard, Kiley Huffman, Kalee Rochinski, Megan Loftis and Esmee Ames onto the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team, the league office announced Tuesday afternoon.
Troy's five selections were the maximum allowed under the current CSC Academic All-District guidelines. The Academic All-America Teams will be announced on Tuesday, June 16.
Howard led the Trojans, who received CSC honors with a 3.864 GPA as an exercise physiology – wellness & fitness major. Howard totaled 17 stolen bases to rank fourth in the Sun Belt – her 0.36 stolen bases per game also ranked third. She was also near perfect in the field with 45 putouts and one assist in 47 chances for a .979 fielding percentage at left field.
Rochinski transferred from UTSA to hold a 3.663 GPA as a marketing major. She ranked fourth in the SBC and 99th nationally with nine runners caught stealing from behind the plate. The junior became the first-ever Trojan to catch a runner stealing four straight games.
As an interprofessional health science major, Huffman transferred to Troy from Texas Tech to finish her first season with a 3.612 GPA. The sophomore totaled 16 doubles to sit fourth in the conference and 74th in the country – Huffman's 16 doubles tied for the eighth most in a single season at Troy. Her four sac flies also ranked third in the SBC.
Loftis and Ames graduated from Troy with GPAs of 3.628 and 3.652, respectively, as interdisciplinary study majors. Loftis earned All-Sun Belt Second Team as she led the conference and ranked 13th nationally with 0.25 sac bunts per game. She also had 13 stolen bases to sit ninth in the SBC. She had career-highs in nearly every statistical category with 44 hits, nine RBIs, and 26 runs through 52 games. Meanwhile, Ames returned for five victories on the mound, pitching a seven-inning shutout against West Georgia with a career-high eight strikeouts. She allowed zero earned runs in eight of her 16 appearances.
