TROY, Ala. – The Troy softball team continues their short road trip with a visit to San Marcos, Texas for a weekend-long series with No. 20 Texas State. The Trojans are looking to break a two-game losing streak after suffering a 14-9 loss to Georgia Tech on Wednesday.
Troy (26-13, 6-3 SBC) has yet to lose a conference series, winning two out of three games in its series against James Madison, Coastal Carolina and Southern Miss. The Trojans have outscored their opponents 54-45 in conference play.
A three-headed monster leads the Trojan offense. The trio of Jade Sinness, Libby Baker and Cassidy Boltz is responsible for 24 home runs, 101 RBIs, 121 hits and 73 total runs. Each member of this tandem has over a .350 batting average, over a 1.000 OPS and a .646 slugging percentage or better.
Texas State (30-8, 7-2 SBC) enters this matchup red-hot. The Bobcats have won 18 out of their last 20 games, including wins over No. 14 Texas A&M and No. 21 Baylor.
A lot of their offensive success is due to graduate senior Sara Vanderford. The grizzled infielder has a .357 batting average with 15 doubles, seven homers and 33 RBIs.
The Bobcats' pitching rotation has been tremendous to start the season. Senior Jessica Mullins bolsters a 0.87 ERA over 21 starts. Mullins has struck out 138 batters in 145.1 innings and has only allowed seven runs in eight conference games.
Another key piece in Texas State's bullpen is Madison Azua. The true freshman has appeared in 18 games for the Bobcats and bolsters a 2.13 ERA with a 6-3 record. Azua has also punched out 50 batters in 52.2 frames.
