Women’s Tennis Takes on Georgia Southern in the Sun Belt Tournament Quarterfinals

TROY, Ala. – The Troy women's tennis team is set to take on Georgia Southern in the quarterfinals of the Sun Belt Women's Tennis Tournament in Rome, Ga., on Friday at 1 p.m. CT.
Troy (15-6, 9-2 SBC), who is the No. 3 seed in the tournament, received a double bye thanks to its impressive 9-2 conference record. Georgia Southern, the No. 6 seed, defeated Louisiana 4-1 in the second round on Thursday afternoon.
The Trojans finished the regular season on an eight-match winning streak after starting conference play 1-2. The first SBC win of Troy's season came over No. 70 Georgia Southern in Statesboro.
During its impressive winning streak, the Trojans won the doubles point in all eight duals. When winning the doubles point this season, Troy went 12-0. The top doubles pairing for the Trojans is Hagar Ramadan-Amin and Leena Metwally, who went 7-0 when playing together and were named to the All-Sun Belt Second Team in doubles.
In singles, Metwally has also impressed going 15-4 (7-3 SBC) during her freshman campaign. Leading the team in wins this season was Gabrielle Leslie at 18-1 (8-1 SBC). Her lone loss came while playing indoors against Marshall. Maria Guirguis (12), Valeriia Avdeeva (11), and Ramadan-Amin (10) also logged double-figure singles wins in the spring.
The Trojans finished the regular season with an impressive 76-44 record in singles matches.
Against Georgia Southern earlier this season, Troy lost the doubles point but got singles wins from Kristina Kukaras, Guirguis, Avdeeva and Leslie to pull out a 4-3 win. Avdeeva clinched the team victory with a 6-7 (7-5), 6-0, 7-5 win on court four.
Georgia Southern is led by Ninon Martinache, who was named to the All-Sun Belt First Team in singles after going 17-2 this season. She was also named to the All-Sun Belt Second Team in doubles with partner Sonja Keranen. The duo went 13-5 in the regular season.
