JONESBORO, Ark. – Troy women's tennis has extended its win streak to seven following a 4-2 victory over Arkansas State. The victory also marked the Trojans fifth win against a Sun Belt opponent.
The day began with the duo of Maria Gurguis and Valeriia Avdeeva moving to 10-3 on the season with a victory over Lilly Cvanciger and Carla Muro Castellvi, 6-4. Hiba Heni and Leena Metwally secured the doubles point for the Trojans by defeating Hanmare McAslin and Helena Bueno also by a score of 6-4.
In singles play, Valeriia Avdeeva secured her tenth win of the season and Troy's second point of the day after besting Lilly Cvanciger, 6-4 and 6-2. On court one, Maria Guirguis moved to 14-0 by topping Anna Grigoreva in straight sets, 6-4, 7-5.
After a short run by the Red Wolves, Hiba Heni closed the door on Arkansas State in a three-set victory over Helena Bueno. Bueno took set one via tiebreaker, but Heni answered by taking sets two and three 6-2.
Troy will return to action from Lafayette, La., on Sat. Apr. 11 when they take on the Ragin' Cajuns.
