Avdeeva, Guirguis Collect Doubles Team of the Week Honors

NEW ORLEANS, La. – Troy women's tennis earned a Sun Belt honor for the second straight week, as the duo of Valeriia Avdeeva and Maria Guirguis was named Doubles Team of the Week, the conference announced Thursday.

Avdeeva and Guirguis turned in another strong week on Court 1, helping power the Trojans to two Sun Belt victories. On Saturday against Southern Miss, the pair defeated Angelina Blinova and Sakura Sudo, 6-4.

"I'm proud of Maria and Valeriia for this well-deserved honor," head coach Rawia Elsisi said. "They've been incredibly solid in doubles throughout the season and played key roles in this past weekend's wins."

Against No. 69 South Alabama on Sunday, Troy was kickstarted with a win by the two seniors on Court 1, a win over Rio Maeda and Jana Rovira, 6-3.

The two are 9-3 as a pair this season and have won three matches in a row.

Troy will look to extend its winning streak to seven matches on Saturday, taking on Arkansas State in Jonesboro at 11 a.m.
