STATESBORO, Ga. – Jade Sinness's two-run home run in the sixth inning pushed Troy to a 6-3 victory over Georgia Southern at Eagle Field on Saturday afternoon.
Georgia Southern (23-19, 6-11 SBC) broke the stalemate in the second frame when Janai Conklin got on base with a walk. The Eagles brought pinch runner Brook Kell with one out on the board. Jess Mazur stepped up to the plate and ripped one to right centerfield, scoring Kell and putting Georgia Southern on top 1-0.
Sarah Beth Brake put Troy (30-17, 10-7 SBC) on the board to tie the game when she crushed a solo home run in the top of the third frame.
Georgia Southern responded with a home run in the bottom of the third and fourth to pull away with a 3-1 lead.
The fifth frame saw the Trojan offense come alive. It started when Natalie Turner drew a walk after being hit by a pitch and Sinness singled to left field. Back-to-back singles from Libby Baker and Anslee Finch saw Troy tie the game at 3-3. With runners on third and first, an Eagle error saw pinch runner Taylor Danford put Troy on top for the first time in the game, 4-3.
The Trojan offense continued to make a statement in the top of the sixth inning off the bat of Sinness. Sinness crushed her fourth pitch up the right-field line for a two-run homer to extend the final margin of 6-3.
Haley Pittman led the Trojans from the circle with five innings pitched. She struck out two and gave up three runs on six hits. She was relieved by Alyssa Faircloth and Savannah Money. Money pitched the final two inning of the game, where she punched out one and gave up no hits.
Thoughts from Eric Newell
"A nice win team win for us, we really responded well. Yesterday, was a tough loss and today was a big win, a big team win, it had a lot of contributions. A lot of people who responded from advisory maybe from the day before. I could not be happier for our girls, certain ones on this team got back on the horse today and performed well
