STATESBORO, Ga. – Troy softball fell 6-2 in the series-opening game against Georgia Southern at Eagle Field on Friday afternoon.

Troy (29-17, 9-7 SBC) was held to six hits, marking the fourth time the Trojans have recorded six hits this season. Jade Sinness led the charge, going 2-for-3 from the dish.

Cassidy Boltz would get on base early in the second frame to give the Trojans base runners when one out would go by with Jillian Williams at the plate. Williams put Troy on the board first, scoring herself and Boltz with a two-run shot, giving Troy an early 2-0 lead.

It took the Eagles until the fourth frame to respond. With two runners on, Emma Davis and Katie Perkins both singled to tie the game at 2-2. The Eagles offense would continue to load the bases when Janai Conklin singled up the middle, scoring both Perkins and Davis, 4-2. Georgia Southern would load the bases once more with a walk. Two walks from the Savannah Money would give the Eagles a 6-2 lead when a line out ended the inning.

From the circle, the Trojans pitched in a three-person tandem of Libby Baker, Savannah Money and Kate Peters. Libby Baker went five innings for the Trojans. She punched out one batter and gave up five earned runs.

"I'm disappointed we didn't play too well. I thought we were flat. We just left too many base runners for Georgia Southern. They had 10 hits with six free passes, three walks and three hit-by-pitches. We just didn't make the adjustments we needed to make offensively. It's a tough loss; they scored one inning and we scored one inning. They put up a six spot in their inning and we just couldn't overcome it.
