Women’s Tennis Sweeps Arkansas State on Senior Day

TROY, Ala. – The Troy women's tennis team continued its dominant play on Sunday, defeating Arkansas State 7-0 on Senior Day at the Lunsford Tennis Complex.
Troy (14-6, 8-2 SBC) has now won seven straight matches in conference play to move up to a tie for second place in the Sun Belt standings with Marshall.
Prior to the match, Troy recognized seniors Kristina Kukaras and Olivia Elliott, who both will graduate this May. In addition to recognizing the players, the team also acknowledged graduate assistant coach Pepe Llinares, who is also departing the program following the season.
Once the festivities wrapped up, the Trojans hoped right in doubles action and dominated. Maria Guirguis and Valeriia Avdeeva opened things up with a 6-3 win in the number three spot. Leena Metwally and Hagar Ramadan-Amin won 6-4 in the number three spot to take the 1-0 lead for Troy. The Trojans are now 11-0 this season when it wins the doubles point, and they have won it in eight straight matches. The number two doubles match went unfinished with the teams tied at 6.
In singles, Metwally and Leslie quickly added to the Troy lead. On court five, Metwally won 6-0, 6-0 to move to 14-4 in the spring. Leslie won 6-2, 6-0 on court six to move to a team-best 17-1 this spring. Maria Guirguis clinched the overall team victory with a 6-1, 6-4 win on court three.
The remaining three matches were all played out. On court one, Kukaras snagged a 6-3, 7-5 win to pick up a win on Senior Day. On court four, Avdeeva won 7-5, 6-3.
The final match of the dual was on court two. After dropping the first set, Ramadan-Amin pulled off the comeback win with a 5-7, 7-6 (7-5), 10-7 win to make it 7-0 Troy.
Troy now moves to 72-42 in singles play this spring. The Trojans outscored its opponents 14-0 this weekend.
