TROY, Ala. – The Troy track and field program wrapped up the first Doc Anderson Invitational since 2019 on Saturday afternoon, as both the men's and women's dominated their respective events.
The men's team scored a meet-best 230 points, 119 points clear of the next closest team. The women's side came up clutch on Saturday afternoon to finish with 179 points, 13 points clear of second place. As a program, Troy had 12 first-place finishes and 37 total podium finishes — both season highs.
Tydreke Thomas led the way all weekend with three first-place finishes. On Friday he won the 200m dash with a time of 21.78. On Saturday he won the 100m (10.39) and was part of the winning 4x100 relay team.
Javon Osbourne also had another good showing. He was victorious in the men's shot put, as he put together a season-best mark of 18.01m, which is top 50 in the NCAA this spring. He finished second in the men's discus after a throw of 57.57m. Altwayne Bedward finished second in the shot put with a personal best of 17.80m.
Biniosa Ezukuse ensured a Troy sweep of the top spot in the shot put as she took home first place in the women's event with a distance of 15.52m, also a season-best. Joy Edward finished just behind her at 15.31m, good for second place. In the discus, Brooke Burns hit a mark of 44.39m to win her first-ever collegiate event. Shanara Richards finished second at 44.38m.
In women's running, Kasia Cooper took home first place in the women's 400m with a time of 57.00. Lucy Turley won the 5000m with an impressive time of 19:00.04.
Eugene Vickers won the men's 110m hurdles in a nail-biting finish. Vickers finished with a 14.211, which was just .005 faster than second place. The time was a new PR for Vickers, and it is top-100 in the country.
The women's heptathlon also wrapped up on Saturday. Kady Schwietz was Troy's top finisher, finishing fourth with 4,569 points. Alejandra Gutierrez Fuente finished fifth with 4,529 points and Sydney Lockner finished 14th with 3,261 points. Gutierrez Fuente won the 200m and long jump events, while Schwietz won the 800m.
Thoughts from Coach
Director of Track and Field Marc Davis gave his thoughts following the meet:
"It went off very well. I was excited about the kids competing, and I think they stepped up and did the things they needed to do. It's not fun being outside all day and running multiple events, but I think they grasped the idea and did what they needed to do and did what they had to do. That led to us winning on both sides and that is a great thing."
