Women’s Tennis Sweeps Southern Miss in Conference Home Opener

TROY, Ala. – After a tough road trip last weekend, the Troy women's tennis team opened its home conference schedule in impressive fashion, sweeping Southern Miss 4-0 on Saturday afternoon at the Lunsford Tennis Complex.
Troy (8-6, 2-2 SBC) found its groove early and never looked back. The Trojans, who had lost the doubles point in the previous seven duals, handled their business early to grab a 1-0 lead.
Hagar Ramadan-Amin and Leena Metwally picked up a 6-0 win in the No. 3 doubles spot. The Golden Eagles answered back with a 6-3 win in the No. 1 spot. Kristina Kukaras and Emilia Namyslo were in an intense battle in the deciding doubles match but prevailed with a 7-6 (7-4) victory. The Trojans move to 5-0 this season when winning the doubles point.
In singles, Troy continued to roll. Maria Guirguis made it 2-0 with a 6-2, 3-0 win on court three. The match ended early in the second set, as the Southern Miss player had to retire. Metwally followed her strong doubles performance with a 6-1, 6-4 win on court five. Metwally is now 9-3 in singles this spring.
Up 3-0, the Trojans looked to Ramadan-Amin to clinch the victory, and that's exactly what she did. The junior recorded a 6-2, 6-2 win to move Troy back into the win column for the first time in two weeks.
The Trojans return to action on Sunday afternoon, as they welcome in-state rival South Alabama to the Lunsford Tennis Complex, with first serve coming at 10 a.m.
