TROY, Ala. – The Troy women's tennis team welcomes Southern Miss and South Alabama for its first home conference duals of the season on Saturday and Sunday at the Lunsford Tennis Complex.
Saturday's match against Southern Miss will start at noon, while Sunday's match against South Alabama will start at 10 a.m. Live stats will be available for both matches on Troystats.com.
Troy (7-6, 1-2 SBC) is coming off a tough road trip, where it dropped both of its conference matches and was outscored 11-0. A key for the Trojans to get back on track is finding success in the doubles portion of the dual, an area that they have struggled in early this season. When jumping ahead 1-0, Troy is 4-0 compared to 3-6 when losing the doubles point.
Troy has fared better in singles this spring. The Trojans are 41-34 in singles matches, with Gabrielle Leslie leading the way with an 11-1 record — including 1-1 in Sun Belt Action. Leena Metwally has also put together a good singles season. She is currently 8-3.
Scouting Southern Miss
The Golden Eagles enter Saturday's contest at 4-6 (0-2 SBC). In their most recent match, they fell to No. 67 Old Dominion 4-2. Their match on Sunday against James Madison was postponed.
Southern Miss is 16-23 in singles play this season. Sahuna Das is leading the way with a team-high four wins this spring. Sydney Smyczynski is undefeated at 3-0.
Scouting South Alabama
The Jaguars (8-2, 2-0 SBC) are in the midst of a four-match winning streak and defeated Arkansas State and James Madison to open conference play. South Alabama's two losses have come against No. 14 Auburn and Florida Atlantic.
Elysia Pool is leading the way with a team-best 8-2 singles record, all coming out of the No. 2 spot. Delien Kleinhans is 7-1 and Manai Ennaciri is 7-2. Overall, the Jaguars are 38-16 in singles. In doubles, they are 14-11 and have won the doubles point in six of their 10 matches.
