No. 72 Men's Tennis Remains Unbeaten at Home, Defeats Tennessee State

TROY, Ala. – The No. 72 Troy men's tennis team ran its home record to a perfect 9-0 with a 4-3 victory over Tennessee State on Monday at the Lunsford Tennis Complex. The win was Troy's sixth straight overall.

Troy (14-2) improved to 13-1 in doubles over the last six matches, winning on courts one and three to take the 1-0 lead. The Trojans improved to 28-1 in the last two seasons when they won the doubles point, while the duo of Mario Martinez Serrano and Luciano Alcocer moved to 6-0 on the year as a pair.

Martinez carried his success to the singles courts, where he had to fight through a three-set battle with Daniel Caraballo, but the nation's No. 71 singles player prevailed and moved to 16-0 on the year with a 6-1, 3-6, 6-2 victory.

Yeray Andres Pastor led 6-2, 3-0 on court five when his opponent retired, pushing Troy's lead to 2-0 and Pastor's spring record to 12-2, his fifth straight win. Martinez finished next as four of the six singles matches went to three sets.

The Tigers (3-11) picked up wins on courts three and four to pull within one, 3-2, and led in the third set on court six before Alcocer battled back to force a tiebreak in the decider,, which he won 7-4 to clinch the match for the Trojans. Alcocer's victory was his sixth straight, as he improved to 8-1 on the year.

Troy opens Sun Belt Conference play Wednesday at No. 42 Old Dominion.
