JACKSONVILLE, Ala. – Rigsby Mosley added to his long list of accolades Wednesday afternoon as he became Troy's new all-time leader in doubles with the 58
th double of his career. Mosley also went on to earn his first career win in his first career start on the mound to guide Troy to a 14-6 victory at Jim Case Stadium.
The 2019 Sun Belt batting champion went 2.0 innings, allowing no hits, runs, or walks while striking out four. Mosley (1-0) was also the designated hitter for the Trojans (8-5), and he finished the game at the plate, with an RBI and a run scored.
His double in the top of the third inning gave him 58 doubles in his career, passing
Drew Frederic, who set the record last season.
The Trojans end Jacksonville State's (4-7) four-game winning streak as Trey Forter (0-2) is tabbed with the loss.
Seven different Trojans had at least one RBI as
Easton Kirk, and
Jesse Hall led the team with three each.
Seth Johnson got the Trojans on the board first with his first career home run in the second as the Wetumpka, Ala. native sent a solo shot 375 feet over the fence in left-center field.
The Trojans wouldn't look back as a 10 run third inning saw the bats come alive as things got started with
Hudson Hartsfield reaching on an error. Troy would string together four straight hits with singles from
Donovan Whibbs,
William Sullivan, and Hall. Mosley's double broke the game open as Troy continued to bat around.
The damage continued as Johnson picked up his second RBI of the game with a sacrifice fly and two more doubles by
Colin Summerhill, and Kirk put more Trojans on the base paths. Hall would step up for his second time in the inning and add two more RBIs to his stats with a double to make it 11-0.
The 10 runs in the third inning were the first time since April 24, 2010, against New Orleans that the Trojans scored 10 runs in an inning.
All nine Trojan starters had at least one hit in the game, as the Gamecocks didn't have a hit or a run until the bottom of the fifth inning when Brennen Norton hit a home run to get Jacksonville St. on the board.
Freshman
Keaton Fuller had another strong outing in relief for Troy as he went a season-high 3.0 innings pitched, striking out a new career-high five batters.
Jacksonville chipped at the lead after getting to the Trojan bullpen as
Logan Ross,
Beau Fletcher,
Noah Janney,
Kyle Gamble, and
Ryan Pettys saw action following Fuller.
Three of the six runs scored by the Gamecocks were unearned as they came off wild pitches.
Up Next: The Trojans return home to begin an eight-game homestand beginning with Indiana for a three-game series March 11-13.
