Meade, Janicki Receive 2026 AlaBCA Honors

TROY, Ala. — Troy baseball head coach Skylar Meade and starting catcher Jimmy Janicki have been honored by the Alabama Baseball Coaches Association (AlaBCA). Meade was named the 2026 Large College Coach of the Year, while Janicki earned 2026 Player of the Year honors, the organization announced.
The AlaBCA is dedicated to educating, honoring, and promoting amateur baseball players and coaches throughout the state of Alabama.
In his fifth year at the helm, Skylar Meade led Troy through a landmark season, taking the program to heights it had never reached before. Entering the NCAA Tournament as the No. 3 seed in the Gainesville Regional, the Trojans rebounded from an opening-round loss to Miami by rattling off four consecutive victories to punch their ticket to the NCAA Super Regionals. Hosting Little Rock at Riddle-Pace Field, Troy dominated the Trojan War matchup with a sweep to secure a spot in the Men's College World Series. Once in Omaha, Meade's squad continued to make history, highlighted by a marquee victory over No. 18 Ole Miss.
Meade and the Trojans were battle-tested all season, as Troy finished with the seventh-strongest strength of schedule (SOS) and the strongest among non-power conference programs. Following their historic run to Omaha, Troy capped off the year with its highest final rankings in program history, landing at No. 6 in both the NCBWA and D1Baseball polls.
Under Meade's leadership, the Trojans featured one of the country's most explosive offenses, ranking 12th nationally in scoring. That depth was on full display across the roster, which featured seven players with 50-plus hits, five with 50-plus runs scored, four with 50-plus RBIs, and five with double-digit home runs.

In his second season with the Trojans, Janicki quickly emerged as one of the top players in the country and was the engine behind the Trojans' surging offense. The native of Downers Grove, Ill. compiled one of the most proficient offensive seasons in program history, ending the year with a .343/.415/.664 slash line and a 1.079 OPS.
Janicki lit up the stat sheet in his sophomore campaign, earning Sun Belt Player of the Year, Second Team All-American (D1Baseball & Perfect Game), Third Team All-American (NCBWA), Dick Howser Trophy Semifinalist, Sun Belt Player of the Week (Week 5), Buster Posey National Catcher of the Week (Week 10), and Gainesville Regional All-Tournament Team honors.
