Horne Smashes 100th Career RBI, Long Ball Powers Troy Past ULM

TROY, Ala. – Troy launched four home runs, including Kelly Horne's solo home run to notch her 100th career RBI, to power past ULM, 9-1, and even the series Saturday at the Troy Softball Complex.

Kelly Horne smashed a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth inning to notch her 100th career RBI. The junior is now eight RBIs shy of etching her name into Troy's top-10 career RBIs record.

Leanna Johnson (11-3) turned in her sixth double-digit strikeout performance of the season. The Trojans (17-7, 3-2 Sun Belt) improves to 6-0 in games where Johnson hurls 10 or more strikeouts.

The Trojans struck first in the bottom of the first inning with their first home run of the day. Jade Sinness monstered a long ball over the scoreboard in right field to put the Trojans on top early.

ULM (16-7, 3-2 Sun Belt) answered with its lone run of the contest in the top of the second inning when Jacelyn Buck singled to score Madelyn Fletcher, who reached on a double down the left-field line.

After a quiet third frame, the Trojans plated three runs off three hits and an error in the bottom of the fourth to break the game wide open.

Logan Calhoun jump started Troy's offense with a solo shot that pinged off the right-field wall and over. It marked the first home run Calhoun had hit in 1,465 days and just the third of her career.

Jade Sinness followed directly behind Calhoun with a single to right field and came around to score off a pair of errors on her stolen base attempt.

Horne capped off the offensive outburst with her solo long ball.

Singles by Kennedi Gaton, Calhoun, Libby Baker and Katie Lively and a home run from Candela Figueroa added four more runs for the good guys in the bottom of the fifth.

Baker entered in relief of Johnson in the top of the sixth and retired the side to bring Troy's offense back to the plate.

Sinness walked the game off, run-rule style, with a double to left-center field that plated Calhoun and gave Troy the eight-run advantage, 9-1, needed to end the contest early.

Kinsey Kackley (4-2) suffered the loss for ULM after allowing five hits, four runs and four walks.
