TROY, Ala. – Powered by a pair of three-run innings, Troy Softball took the series over ULM with a win in the Sunday series finale, 6-4, at the Troy Softball Complex.
Â
With the series tied 1-1, Troy (18-7, 4-2 Sun Belt) used two three-run innings to pick up the win in the finale and claim its second consecutive league series win.
Â
The contest started as a pitchers' duel with both sides combining for just one hit through the first three frames.
Â
The Trojans broke the game open in the bottom of the fourth, plating three runs off four hits. Kelly Horne and Libby Baker led off the inning with back-to-back singles.
Â
After a beautifully executed sacrifice bunt, Taylor McKinney and Audra Thompson ripped back-to-back singles to plate the first two runs of the contest. Katie Lively followed with a sacrifice fly to cap off the three-run affair.
Â
After Baker (5-2) retired the side in the fifth, a pair of one-out walks and a single by Baker loaded the bases for Anslee Finch. Finch ripped a single through the right side to plate another trio of runs for the Trojans.
Â
ULM (16-8, 3-3 Sun Belt) answered in the top of the sixth with four runs off three hits and two walks, but Leanna Johnson (SV2) entered in relief of Baker and worked out of the jam.
Â
Johnson returned in the top of the seventh and fanned two Warhawks to secure the win.
Â
Baker earned the victory after scattering four hits and tallying eight strikeouts. After entering with the tying run at the plate, Johnson collected three strikeouts in 1.1 innings of work to earn her second save of the season.
Â
Victoria Abrams (5-1) suffered the loss for ULM after giving up two runs, four hits and a pair of walks.
