Women's Tennis Defeats Arkansas State in Sun Belt Tournament

PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. – The Troy women's tennis team advanced to the quarterfinals of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament with its 4-0, opening round victory over Arkansas State. Troy is now 8-10 on the year while Arkansas State falls to 4-9.
Troy got the Sun Belt Conference Tournament started on the right foot with its dominating performance in doubles. The Trojans jumped on the Wolves from the start as the duo of Shevita Aulana and Matea Mihaljevic earned the 6-0 shutout victory on court three. On court two, the pair of Michelle Ncube and Andrea Widing was able to clinch the doubles point for Troy with their 6-2 decision.
In singles action the Trojans picked up right where they left off from doubles, jumping out to early leads in the opening sets on four different courts. Troy picked up its second point of the morning on court three when Aulana won 6-2, 7-5. Shortly after Aulana's victory, Troy extended its lead to 3-0 with a court four victory from Ncube who defeated Jill Morse, 6-1, 6-3. The match was clinched for the Trojans by freshman Anastasiia Khrustaleva who earned the 6-2, 6-2 victory and advanced Troy to Friday's quarterfinals.
Next up for Troy will be a date with in-state rival, South Alabama. The Trojans and Jaguars will meet at 9 a.m. on Friday for a chance to advance to Saturday's semifinal. This will be the third consecutive SBC Tournament that Troy and South Alabama have played each other, with the Jaguars holding a 2-0 advantage in those meetings.
