Women’s Tennis Falls to Marhsall in Semifinals

ROME, Ga. – The Troy women's tennis program's impressive run in the Sun Belt Tournament ended on Saturday afternoon, as it fell 4-1 to Marshall in the semifinals.
Troy (13-10) was unable to overcome an early deficit and saw its season come to a close. Marshall opened play with a pair of doubles wins at the No. 1 and 2 spots to secure the early 1-0 lead.
The Thundering Herd extended their lead to 3-0 after a pair of wins in the No. 4 and 1 singles spots. Maria Guirguis got Troy on the board with a 2-6, 6-4, 6-1 win in the second spot but the comeback effort would stop there, as Marshall clinched its ticket to the championship match with a win at No. 3. The remaining two singles matches went unfinished.
Valeriia Avdeeva finished the season as Troy's singles wins leader with 16 in dual play. Guirguis finished with 14. Both players were named to the Sun Belt All-Conference Singles Team.
The 2025 campaign marked the fourth season in a row that the Trojans recorded 10 or more wins and the second consecutive season it has gone to the Sun Belt Tournament semifinals match.
