Women's Tennis Falls in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament Quarterfinals

PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. – The Troy women's tennis team had its 2021 season come to a close on Friday in the quarterfinals of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament. The Trojan met in-state rival, and No. 1 seed, South Alabama in the match-up with the Jaguars edging out the 4-1 victory. Troy concluded its season with an 8-11 overall record and a 3-6 record in the Sun Belt Conference.

Troy was impressive in the doubles portion of Friday's quarterfinals, winning two of the three doubles matches to take the early lead. The Trojans two wins came on courts one and three and included one of the biggest upsets of the season. On court one it was the duo of Anastasiia Khokhlova and Anastasiia Khrustaleva who earned the 6-4 decision. On court three the pair of Shevita Aulana and Matea Mihaljevic earned the 6-4 victory and did something that no other Sun Belt team has been able to do this season, and that was to knock off the duo of Otoha Aoki and Aina Domingo-Bernabeu who came into the match with a perfect 7-0 record, the best mark in the SBC.

In singles play, South Alabama jumped on Troy in the first sets on four separate courts before eventually taking the second sets and earning wins on courts one, two, three and five to win the match 4-1. On courts four and six however, it was all Trojans. Michelle Ncube won her first set over Milka Pasanen 6-4 and was trailing by just one before the match was stopped. On court six, Khrustaleva battled back from an early two-point deficit in the first set to win it by a score of 7-5.
