Menβs Golf Makes Last-Minute Trip to the Schenkel Invitational

TROY, Ala. βΒ A last-minute addition to the schedule has the Troy men's golf team loading up and heading to Statesboro, Georgia for the Schenkel Invitational at the 6,962-yard Forest Heights Country Club. Teams will play 18 holes daily Friday through Sunday.

"This is where our season came to an end last year because of COVID, so to be back here and playing in this event I see as a sign of optimism that better days are ahead," head coach Bart Barnes said. "This is a great opportunity for us against a good field. Our guys were excited when we got the call last night that we were playing and we're ready to take advantage of the chance."

Barnes will turn to a familiar three guys at the top of his lineup with Will McFadden, Brent Hamm and Nicklas Borrmann getting the call in the top three spots. Each fired a round under par last week at the Linger Longer Invitational and were the Trojans' top finishers in the event.

New to the lineup will be a pair of freshmen in George Burch and Jarrod Johnson who will be playing together for the first time. Burch carded a pair of rounds in the 60s in an up-and-down fall, while Johnson made his Troy debut in February at the Seminole Intercollegiate. Ryan Morrison will play as an individual.

"We've got to get consistency towards the bottom of our lineup," Barnes said. "We're getting solid scoring at the top from different people each week, but we need stability one through five. We're going to have to play positional golf and leave our tee shots on the right side of the holes so we can be aggressive to the pin."
