Men's Tennis Splits Opening Day of HEB Invite

TROY, Ala. – The Troy men's tennis team went 1-1 in its first day of competition at the HEB Invitational in Corpus Christi, Texas on Friday. Troy opened the day with a 3-4 defeat to New Mexico State before rebounding with a 4-1 win over DePaul later in the day.
Match 1 vs New Mexico State
After dropping the crucial doubles point to New Mexico State Troy needed to win four matches in singles to take home the victory. The Trojans got an early victory on court two from Carles Anton to tie the match at one before eventually taking the lead with a win on Court six by Javier Llinares. Troy later extended its lead to 3-1 when Oskar Michalek picked up a win thanks to a retirement by his opponent. Late in the match Troy was unable to secure that final point needed to win the match falling to the Aggies, 3-4.

For the second match in a row Troy lost the doubles point but they didn't stay down for long as they began to find their rhythm in singles play. The Trojans earned two quick wins at No. 5 singles and No. 1 singles, as both Javier Llinares and Pelayo Antuna made quick work of their opponents. With a 2-1 lead Troy put away DePaul with wins from Anton on court two and Michalek on court three to earn the 4-1 victory in their second match of the day.
