TROY, Alabama – Following a near month layoff, the Troy men's golf team returns to the links this weekend for the Mason Rudolph Championship at the Vanderbilt Legends Club in Franklin, Tenn.
Due to impending weather, teams will now play 36 holes on Friday and attempt to get 18 holes in on Saturday and Sunday for the possibility of a 72 or 54-hole tournament. The 14-team field is highlighted by No.4 Vanderbilt, No. 6 Florida and No. 7 Alabama and also features five other top-100 teams.
This weekend's tournament is Troy's first since March 18-20 when it competed in the Linger Longer Invitational to wrap up a stretch of three tournaments in less than a month's time.
"It's a double-edged sword when you look at our time off in between events," head coach Bart Barnes said. "You worry about a little bit of rust, but for me I'm hoping that we're well rested and will take advantage of the good weeks of practice that we've had since our last event."
The Mason Rudolph is the final tune up of the spring for the Trojans before the Sun Belt Conference Championship at The Raven Golf Course on April 22-25.
Calum Masters leads the Trojans with a +2.75 score vs. par for the season, while Connor Futrell paces Troy with four rounds under par and is second to Masters with a +2.86 score vs. par. Dean Martin's card has counted towards the team score a team-best 95.2 percent of the time this season and his 74.17 spring scoring average is the best on the team.
Barnes will also turn to freshmen Ike Alexander (+4.00) and Mac Murphy (+6.50) along with sophomore Jake Tiffin (+5.67) to round out his lineup; Alexander will play as an individual in the tournament.
The Field
Vanderbilt, Alabama, Ball State, Charlotte, East Tennessee State, Florida, Georgia, High Point, Liberty, Louisville, Middle Tennessee, South Dakota, Tennessee Tech and Troy.
T-Time
Due to the schedule change, teams will play 36 holes on Friday with a shotgun start. Troy will open on holes 15 thru 17 beginning at 8 a.m. along with Tennessee Tech and High Point.
