Men’s Golf Finishes Strong at Memphis Intercollegiate

CORDOVA, Tenn. – Troy carded the second-best round on the golf course in Tuesday's final round of the Memphis Intercollegiate, as the Trojans finished fourth in the 11-team field at the Colonial Country Club.

The Trojans picked up wins over teams who have had their number this season, including Tarleton State, Illinois State, Lipscomb, Central Arkansas, ULM and Jacksonville State – Troy was 2-12 combined against those teams prior to this week.

Troy shot 4-over on Tuesday, only one shot behind Wright State and six shots better than Memphis, which won the team title at 2-over for the week. Wright State finished second at 14-over, followed by Eastern Kentucky (+16) and Troy (+19).

Pablo Gracia picked up his second top 10 finish of the year after shooting 71 on the day, his 11th under-par round of the season. He birdied a pair of holes and eagled the par-5, 561-yard 18th.

Thomas Crane and Lee Poppell also had strong finishes, tying for 15th place at 6-over for the week. Crane shot 72 on Tuesday and tied for fourth in the field with a cumulative 6-under on the par 5s, while Poppell closed the week with a 74 and tied for second in the field with 40 pars.

Haston Emblom turned in Troy's final counting card of the day, with a 3-over 75 as he birdied the 15th and 18th to finish tied for 38th, while his brother, Lawton, tied for 34th after shooting 76 for the day and 9-over for the week.

Troy's two individual golfers, Pierce Becker and Landon Noble, finished 55th and 62nd, respectively.

The Trojans finished the tournament tied with Central Arkansas for the best in the field on the par 3s at 10-over, while finishing third on the par 5s at 9-under.

Troy travels to Kannapolis, N.C., and The Club at Irish Creek next Monday and Tuesday for the Irish Creek Collegiate.
