FRANKLIN, Tennessee – Calum Masters fired a 4-over par to lead Troy in Friday's opening two rounds of the Mason Rudolph Championship at the Vanderbilt Champions Club. Masters is tied for 21st place individually and Troy is in 12th place as a team.
Masters opened his day with three birdies and in eagle in the first round. After a bogey on No. 15 to start the round, he bounced back on the par-5 18th to get in the red with an eagle. His card reached two under after a pair of birdies on No. 2 and No. 3 before it settled at even par. Masters added two more birdies in the second round as he shot 4-over.
A trio of Trojans are tied for 46th place as Dean Martin, Connor Futrell and Ike Alexander all shot 10-over on the day. Martin and Alexander shot rounds of 78 and 74, while Futrell carded matching 76s on the day. Martin had one birdie in the opening round and added another along with an eagle on his second trip through the course. Futrell had two birdies in the opening round, while Alexander had an eagle in the first round and two birdies in the second round.
No. 46 Liberty leads a crowded top of the leaderboard as the Flames hold a 2-shot lead over No. 7 Alabama and a 5-shot advantage over No. 4 Vanderbilt – No. 6 Florida and No. 47 Louisville round out the top five.
Mac Murphy carded six birdies over his two rounds to enter the clubhouse tied for 58th place at 11-over and Jake Tiffin is tied for 79th place at 22-over following four combined birdies.
Teams are scheduled to hit the course Saturday at 11 a.m. for a shotgun start and 18 holes. However, with a 70 percent chance of rain all day in the Franklin area, play seems unlikely.
