Troy, Ala. – The Troy men's and women's cross country teams are back in action on Saturday when the teams travel to Clinton, Miss., to race in the Watson Ford Invitational at the Choctaw Trails. The men's eight-kilometer race is slated for 8 a.m. while the women's 6k race will begin at 8:45 a.m.
Â
Troy will send a small lineup to the invitational with only 10 athletes – five men and five women making the trip.Â
Â
The men will post an experience-laden team with seniors Brennan Garriques, Sawyer Sprung and Brackin Stewart leading the way. Stewart has been on a tear this season, winning both the JSU Struts Season Opener 5k (15:33.3, personal record) and the Azalea City Classic 8k (26:32.9). Stewart also was recognized as the Sun Belt Conference Runner of the Week on Sept. 12 for his dominant performance at the Azalea City Classic. Joining the senior trio is junior Daniel Glick and closing the tab for the Trojans is sophomore Delaney Moore.Â
Â
Senior Krystin Guirey will lead the way for the women's lineup. Sophomore trio of Michaela Ashley, Kara Coulter and Christie Caruana will make the trip with Caruana racing in the Troy uniform for the first time this season. Completing the women's team is freshman Caroline Sall who has led the way for the Trojans in her two races this year at the JSU Struts Opener (seventh, 19:46.70) and Azalea City Classic (fourth, 19:28.6).Â
Â
Among the Division I teams racing against the Trojans are Alabama, Alabama A&M, Alcorn State, Arkansas Pine-Bluff, Jackson State, Southern and ULM.Â
Â
Last Time Out
The men's team finished sixth with 160 points while the women's team finished eighth with 208 points at the 13th Annual JSU Foothills Invitational on Sept. 29 in Oxford, Ala.
