Troy Set For Blazer Classic

Troy, Ala. – The Troy men's and women's cross country teams will have their final tune up before conference when they travel to Montevallo for the Blazer Classic hosted by UAB on Friday morning. The women will run a six-kilometer race on the Montevallo Course starting at 9 a.m., with the men's 8k slated for a 10:15 a.m. start.Â

Troy will send 14 runners – seven men and seven women to compete in the final regular season meet.Â

Senior Krystin Guirey will serve as the sole upperclassmen for the women. At the Watson Ford Invitational 6k, Guirey set her personal record with a time of 24:19.20. Joining Guirey is the sophomore quartet of Michaela Ashley, Kara Coulter, Christie Caruana and Macki Walsh. Rounding out the women is freshman duo of Tanner Guest and Caroline Sall. Guest led the Trojans in her last race at the JSU Foothills Invitational, finishing 12th in a season-best 5k time of 19:20.80. Additionally, Sall has been pacing the Trojans in all of her races this season, turning in a second-place finish at the Watson Ford Invitational last weekend.Â

Contrary to the women, the men will send an experience-laden team with six out of the seven runners being upperclassmen. Seniors Bradley Dixon, Brennan Garriques, Sawyer Sprung and Brackin Stewart will lead the push. This season Stewart has led the way for the Trojans including winning back-to-back races to begin the year. Junior duo of Daniel Glick and Austin Gray will place on the uniform as well. Closing out the men is sophomore Thomas Ward.Â

Among the Division I teams racing against Troy are Alabama, Alabama State, Florida A&M, Memphis, Mercer, Nicholls State, North Alabama, Samford, South Alabama, Southern Miss (women only), Tennessee, Tennessee Tech and UAB (women only).Â

Last Time Out
Last Saturday morning, the Trojans competed at the Watson Ford Invitational with the women taking first place with 41 points and the men securing third with 78 points. Sall led the Trojans, finishing her first collegiate 6k race in 23:03.10. Stewart paced the men's team with a fourth-place finish in 25:38.38 in the eight-kilometer run.Â
