Appalachian State Cruises Past Troy

TROY, Alabama – Appalachian State's offense exploded for 17 hits to blow past Troy, 12-2, in game two of the Sun Belt series Saturday afternoon at Riddle-Pace Field.

Troy (25-21, 11-12) fell behind early and was not able to respond with runs of their own until a two-run eighth.

Mason Rogers and Hunter Mercer were bright spots at the plate for the Trojans – Rogers went 2-for-4 for his second consecutive multi-hit game, while Mercer also finished 2-for-4 with a double.

Daren Osby (4-4) suffered the loss for Troy after allowing six runs on five hits and a walk in 1.1 innings of work. The 17 hits allowed by the Trojan pitching staff are tied for the most given up in a game this season.

The Mountaineers (19-28, 8-15) scored seven runs in the first two innings to spur them at the plate in a game where 10 different batters hit safely.

Five different Appalachian State hitters had multi-hit games, led by Matt Brill – 4-for-5 with a double, an RBI and three runs scored.
