Troy Welcomes Appalachian State for Take a Kid to the Game Weekend

TROY, Alabama – Troy baseball is set to play host to Sun Belt-foe Appalachian State in a three-game series at Riddle-Pace Field; first pitch for the series opener is set for 6 p.m., Saturday at 3 p.m. and Sunday and 1 p.m.
Troy Athletics is hosting Take a Kid to the Game Weekend at Riddle-Pace Field. All children 12 and under will be admitted free with the purchase of an adult ticket. Fans can also celebrate Cinco de Mayo Friday night with a ticket-food combo and a specialized menu. For more information CLICK HERE.
The Trojans (24-20, 10-11) enter the series after losing to long-time rival Jacksonville State, 4-3, in non-conference action Wednesday night – Troy has lost three in a row following a six-game winning streak.
Justin Friend was a bright spot for the Trojan offense in the game – going 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs to extend his hitting streak to a team-best eight games. Matt Sanders also contributed a pair of hits to pick up his 17th multi-hit game of the season and 47th of his career.
Head coach Mark Smartt will send junior right-hander Andrew Crane (4-1, 1.26) to the mound for his third consecutive Friday start, while Daren Osby (4-3, 3.74) will get the call on Saturday.
Appalachian State (18-27, 7-14) comes into the set having lost their last three after a modest four-game winning stretch. Matt Vernon leads the Mountaineers at the plate batting at a .310 clip with a .487 slugging percentage.
