No. 53 Troy Heads to Bulls Bay for Loaded Field at the Hootie

TROY, Alabama – The No. 53 Troy men's golf team already has some impressive wins on its resume this season, the Trojans will have an opportunity to add to that this weekend when they travel to the Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate at the Bulls Bay Golf Club.

Troy, who has wins over Auburn, Louisville and Kentucky this season, will face a field that includes eight teams ranked in the top 50 – No. 8 Auburn, No. 10 Wake Forest, No. 16 South Carolina, No. 20 Duke, No. 31 Kentucky, No. 37 NC State, No. 45 Kansas and No. 50 Charleston Southern. The rest of the field includes three other teams ranked in the top 100.

The Trojans are coming off an extended break after an eventful week that opened with a stunning victory at Auburn's Tiger Invitational and ended with a heartbreaking final round at the Seminole Intercollegiate.

Troy erased an eight-shot deficit on the final day of the Tiger Invitational to defeat then fifth-ranked Auburn on its home course. At the Seminole Intercollegiate, Luke Moser fired a school record 65 and the Trojans shot a record 16-under par in the second round to carry a nine-shot lead into the final round. However, Troy slipped into sixth place in the event following a disastrous third round.

Freshman Calum Masters led Troy in both events as he tied for sixth at the Tiger Invitational and finished third at the Seminole Intercollegiate. Both tournaments featured one constant for Masters as he carded a 6-under 66 in the final round in each event. Masters' 73.33 spring stroke average is third best on the team, while his 75.57 mark for the year ranks fifth.

Moser and Jared Bettcher continue their battle at the top of the Troy leaderboard as they are separated by a total of 12 strokes heading into the Hootie. Moser leads the Trojans with a 72.78 stroke average, 72.44 spring stroke average, five rounds in the 60s and 10 rounds under par. Bettcher is second on the team with a 73.30 stroke average and eight rounds under par, while tying for the team lead with three top-10 finishes and five top-25 finishes.

Clayton Vannoy has also turned in an impressive spring for the Trojans with a 72.89 mark over nine rounds to lower his season average to 73.35. He is second on the club with eight rounds under par and is third with three rounds in the 60s. Cam Norman rounds out the strong Troy lineup with a 74.13 stroke average for the season and 74.00 in the spring; Norman is third on the team with seven rounds under par and three in the 60s.

The Trojans have been strong in the spring as they average a 1-over 289 as a team, which is three shots lower than its fall average. Troy is also the top-ranked team in the league with the Sun Belt Conference Championship on the horizon in three weeks.
Tee times begin at 9 a.m. (CDT) Saturday.
