Troy Men’s Tennis Falls at No. 56 Auburn

AUBURN, Alabama – After an ultra-competitive doubles point, No. 56 Auburn ran through singles action and the Troy men's tennis team fell to the Tigers, 6-1, indoors at the Yarbrough Tennis Center on Friday.
Troy (1-7) played its seventh match of the season on the road against a ranked team, and was very close to taking a 1-0 lead. Auburn (4-1) won at No. 2 doubles, but the remaining two matches both went to tiebreakers.
At No. 3, Vaclac Slezak and Andre Baldo beat Auburn's Maxime Hinnisdaels and Olle Thestrup, 7-6 (???). However, Troy's Andy Lau and Pablo Moreno fell at No. 1 to Marko Krickovic and Edward Nguyen, 7-6 (????).
Hassan Ndayishimiye returned to the lineup for Troy, playing at No. 6 singles. Playing in his first competitive collegiate match since last May, the Trojans top returner fell in straight sets as Auburn took a 2-0 lead.
The Tigers then won three straight matches at No. 1, No. 3 and No. 4, respectively to clinch the match and take a 5-0 lead. Pablo Moreno grabbed Troy's lone points, beating Brandon Laubser at No. 5, 7-5, 7-5.
Daniel Bustmante battled back to force a third set, but fell at No. 2 to Hinnisdaels, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4, giving Auburn the final 6-1 win.
Troy will look to bounce back on Sunday when its takes on an eighth ranked team, traveling to No. 63 Alabama for a 1 p.m. match.
