Men’s Tennis Set to Compete at ITA All-American Championships

TROY, Ala. – Troy men's tennis looks to start its 2026 fall tournament season at the ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla. Ausias Martin Melo, Luciano Alcocer, and Stephan Tavares Noale will represent Troy, starting Saturday, Sept. 19, at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
The trio of Trojans sees Martin Melo, Alcocer and Stephan Noale competing in open singles and doubles matches.
"We're looking forward to having great competition," head coach Rolando Vargas said. "The tournament is very strong. All of the best teams in the nation are here trying to earn points to qualify for NCAA's, and we're excited about the opportunity. We want to fight for every point, and we want to keep staying in the draw and get some good opportunities to win good matches."
Melo is going into the tournament 19-10 overall, based on his performance last season in singles. The Gandía, Spain, native also went 13-5 on court one and was named to the All-Sun Belt Singles Second Team. As for Alcocer and Tavares Noale, the pair brings in impressive numbers for doubles play, with Tavares Noale going 18-11 in the spring and Alcocer finishing 25-9.
The ITA All-American Championships give Troy the chance to mark a shot at the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships later in November, where eight quarterfinalists from the main draw and two feed-in consolation finalists advance to the NCAA Championships.

Past, Present and Future
Troy's 2026 spring season concluded at the Rome Tennis Center in Rome, Ga., where the Trojans competed in their first Sun Belt Championship match since 2015. Despite the loss, Troy ended with a 24-5 dual-match record to boost them to the No. 8 rank in the Southern Region; the program's most wins in a season since 2015.
After back-to-back 20-plus-win seasons, the Trojans made minor changes to their roster heading into the 2026-27 season. With two departures, Vargas brought in two first-year players, Lenny Galley and Til Zimmermann, while also bringing in Gabriel Garay from West Alabama.
