Men’s Golf in Eighth Following Day One of All-American Intercollegiate

HUMBLE, Texas – Clayton Vannoy fired a 1-under 71 to lead Troy in the opening round of the All-American Intercollegiate Friday at the Golf Club of Houston. The Trojans are in eighth place following the opening 18 holes and are just six strokes out of third place.
Vannoy carded five birdies on the day, including three on the back nine as he shot 1-under over the final nine holes. He is tied for seventh place overall and just four shots back of a pair in first place.
Troy headed into the final three holes in fifth place, but shot 7-over par on those holes to slip to 11-over for the round and eighth place overall. Host Houston shot a 10-under par to take the opening round lead, while South Carolina (+1), SMU (+5), UTSA (+5) and Baylor (+8) round out the top five.
Luke Moser finished his round with one birdie around a trio of bogeys to card a 2-over 74 and finish the day tied for 30th place. Jared Bettcher shot a 2-over on both the front and back nine to close his day at 4-over and tied for 42nd place.
Cam Norman rebounded from a tough front nine to shoot 1-under on the back of the course and finish the day tied for 59th place at 6-over. He is tied with his teammate Calum Masters, who finished the day with a pair of birdies.
The Trojans will tee off at 9 a.m. in Saturday's second round.
